A Snowttish Christmas 2011

Hello everyone! The season of warmth, joy and good cheer is here again!

The much-awaited Christmas dinner will be held at The Sisters, a very well-known restaurant that has received raving reviews all over the web. This is one of our main events of the year, where we dress up in the festive spirit and gather over a 3 course meal, sharing the joyous cheer of the season. Dinner will cost £18 per person.

The gift exchange segment still sticks, and we thought it apt to leave the cost of the gift at your discretion, in the spirit of sharing and giving. Perhaps a good reference to follow last year’s guideline of approximately £4 per person!

Directions:
1. Take the railway from Queen Street Station to Jordanhill station.
The train ride is 11 minutes and costs £2.10 return or,
2. Take Bus 20 from Great Western Road, alighting at Anniesland

Please be reminded to RSVP via the Facebook event page or email glasgowguss@gmail.com by 30 November 2011.
Hope to see you

We’d also like to remind you that if you haven’t, to sign up for the SG Buzz meet up this Friday, details in the previous post.

coming your way

Hey folks! Autumn’s swung in and everyone’s knuckling down in the term proper.

Just so you know, the photos for the welcome dinner has been put up, and a big thank you to all who came for it! We’ve been busy with a string of events through October, and a few more coming your way that we’d just like to remind you of.

On 28th October, that’s THIS FRIDAY PEOPLE, we’re having a Deepavali/Halloween mash-up, with details as follows:
Address: 5A Bower Street G12 8PT
Time: 7pm

RSVP 26/10/11 (Wednesday), which you can do either by email or on the facebook event. This’ll be potluck, and curry themed potluck at that, so be sure to state what you’ll be bringing as well.

In addition to this, there’s also an SGBuzz event we’d like to remind everyone of the week after. On a Friday again, the perfect time to relax after a tough week at university, get… free food (!!!), and generally hang out with other Singaporeans and be reminded of home. Dr. Suresh Nair will be speaking, and it’ll be held very near campus, at Hilton Glasgow Grosvenor. More details and how to sign up will be found here: http://www.overseassingaporean.sg/calendar/event.php?calendar=67&category=0&event=4173&date=2011-11-04

Take note that these events aren’t just for Singaporeans, so if you know of any one else who’d be interested in joining us for an evening of Singaporean banter, get them to come along too.

2011 Chinese New Year Dinner

Heya folks, hope you’re all settling into uni life once again. If you’ve been watching the weather, it’s set to get cold again. Correction: it is once again subzero. While you’re all shivering in your shoes, in your dorm, in your room, in your lecture theatre, where ever, and start feeling a little nostalgic (partly ‘cos it’s winter, and the year’s just flown by. Partly because your brain does weird things to you when you’re cold, so you think), especially with the coming of Chinese New year, do not despair! GUSS is organising a Reunion Dinner on the 12th of February 2011

CNY invite

It will be, as stated, a ten course dinner, held at:
Chinatown Restaurant. 42-46 New City Road, G4 9JT  (Near Cowcaddens Subway station)

To make it even better, we’re calling for Singaporeans (and friends) not just from Glasgow, but from the other Scottish Universities as well. Proper giant get together reunion style. Don’t miss it!

RSVP by 28.01.2011 with the following information:
Name:
University:
Contact number:
Email:
Dietary preference:

Payment should be made by 28.01.2011 to your respective Singapore Society.

Sign up soon! You know you want to *nudgenudge*

facebook connections

Hiya folks, as those of you on Facebook know, Facebook has come up with a new Groups system that allows for chat and more focused networking (probably because they’ve altered their networks as well). Together with Pages, which allow for RSS feeds, tabs and better control of photos etc. (but don’t reveal all members who like the group to other users), have come to replace the function of the Old Groups system.

Moving with the times, we’ve created BOTH a new Group and a Page.
!IMPORTANT NOTE: Updates will cease to be made from the old group.

The new Group is accessible @
http://www.facebook.com/home.php?sk=group_126237480776672

It will function for members to network with each other, and even chat with each other (we might start holding certain mass chat events! You never know). Please do join it. Once you do, it will also be listed in your facebook sidebar for your convenience.

Other items, such as events, photos (especially the photos), club information, links, and a tab for GUSS it’s blog feed will instead be found on the Page @
http://www.facebook.com/pages/GUSS-it/179107818789633

Simply ‘Like’ the page, and you’ll be all set. Note that you do not have to join the Group to like the Page, and vice versa, but announcements of GUSS events will go through the Page.

Till next time (:
